Spherical systems capture data along a full sphere around the AUT hence able to characterize the radiation pattern most accurately among the nearfield methods.
Planar systems are suited for testing antenna with high directivity. It is also favored when antenna is needed to be tested in stationary state.
Cylindrical systems are ideal where the AUT has a radiation pattern that is directive in one plane. The probe scans on a vertical line while the AUT rotates obtaining data over a cylindrical surface.
